Laura Taylor-Kale is the daughter of Julius Kale

Laura Taylor-Kale, who is in charge of innovation and economic competitiveness at the Council on Foreign Relations, has been nominated by President Biden to serve as assistant secretary for industrial base policy at the Defense Department.

The White House announced Friday Biden’s intention to appoint Taylor-Kale and others to key leadership positions in his administration.

The CFR fellow has extensive experience in foreign economic policy, international development finance and industrial policy. Her experience includes serving as senior advisor for policy and operations at the Overseas Private Investment Corp. and as deputy assistant secretary for manufacturing at the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.

Taylor-Kale also spent nearly a decade at the State Department, where she served as a financial economist and foreign service officer.

In a LinkedIn post, the nominee welcomed the announcement and expressed her intention to work with the Senate on the next steps in the confirmation process.

Laura Taylor-Kale is the daughter of architect Julius Kale and granddaughter of the late Paul Monyongo mo’Kale, Speaker of the West Cameroon Assembly and President of the House of Chiefs.

Reacting to the appointment of Laura Taylor-Kale, Professor Emeritus Ndiva Kofele Kale said, “As the head of the Kale family, I can assure you that we are immensely proud of Laura’s appointment as Deputy Secretary of Defense. It is an appointment that expresses the great confidence she has in President Biden. This position is one of the few positions in the U.S. government that requires Senate confirmation.”
