SAMUEL ETO’O IS A DANGER TO PUBLIC MANAGEMENT… Me Christian Bomo
Cameroonian lawyer Me Christian Bomo is shocked by the attitude of Cameroonians who tend to tolerate tax evasion committed by Samuel Eto’o in Spain. In this forum he explains why Samuel Eto’o should no longer be at the head of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
There is a difference between the tax adjustment and the sanction for tax evasion.
In the tax adjustment, there is no fraudulent intent, no desire to evade taxes. We just make bad calculations or bad accounting. In this case, the tax authorities redo the calculations and the taxpayer pays what is really due.
Tax evasion is a criminal offence. It is when a taxpayer voluntarily uses false documents, false declarations to mislead, in a way steal the State. It’s fake. Here the person is prosecuted by the prosecution and judged by a court as when we judge thieves and crooks. A tax evader undermines ethics, public morals.
It is not so much Fecafoot that is of concern in this case, because football remains a pure distraction, a game. If the most organized football federations, sufficiently wealthy like those of France, Germany, development actors in their country, it is not Fecafoot in Cameroon that will be. What is worrying through these events and current events at Fecafoot is the spirit that is anchored in the new generation of Cameroonians.
It is this acceptance of iniquity, of the relativization of forgery and counterfeiters, of double standards. It is the renunciation of virtue. How can we accept that in a country that wants to build itself, an individual sentenced to 22 months in prison can
Without going into the legal maze this time, whether such a sentence is pronounced abroad or in Cameroon, it is a question of morality, of virtue. It is an independent justice which was able to establish this fraud, this theft of the public good, and, the condemned recognized the facts. Is it because a Cameroonian will have raped a woman in China that he is not a rapist when he returns to Cameroon? This is nonsense dear compatriots! The Cameroon of tomorrow, that of our children, must be built on the foundations of integrity and honesty.
Those of us, who have been found guilty of criminally reprehensible practices before foreign independent courts or in Cameroon, do not have the right to manage public affairs or to assume public service missions, even if they were the creators of our country.
Virtue is a fundamental requirement for the development of states.
This is why in developed countries like China, the United States, Germany, Japan… whatever the degree of patriotism, public morality is an imperative requirement.
