In an interview with Deutsche Welle, the lawyer and human rights defender said what she thinks of the Anglophone crisis that has been eating away at so-called English-speaking Cameroon for several years.

“…Civil society would have denounced the brutal means of repression employed by the government for seven years, but in vain. If he does not listen to us, why should Macron listen to us? Cameroon is not a sovereign state and that ‘we are waiting for the visit of a President of the Republic, of a country, even a friendly country, to solve the problems which should never be posed,’ adds Me Nkom.

As one might expect, Me Nkom did not miss the subject of human rights violations in Cameroon. In this regard, the defense actor has also not been kind to the Yaoundé regime with which it has had several standoffs in recent years.

“It is Cameroon which violates its international commitments and which puts people in prison in violation of their fundamental rights, that is to say human rights.
