King Charles III arrives at Buckingham Palace as monarch for the first time
King Charles III traveled from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to Buckingham Palace in London on Friday, marking his first arrival as king to the administrative center of the monarchy. He greeted cheering crowds gathered outside the palace as some sang “God save the king.”
On his first full day of duties, he will address the nation as it mourns the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. He will also meet with the United Kingdom’s new prime minister, Liz Truss, who is new to the job after being appointed earlier this week.
As Britain begins a 10-day mourning period, the country and the world are paying tribute to the queen.
