– The question of the Sdf’s participation in the May 20 parade divides the party

– The regional presidents of the Littoral and the Centre, namely Jean Michel Nintcheu and Emmanuel Ntonga have opted for a boycott

– Joshua Osih is for participation in the parade and was reinforced in his position on Thursday by the party president John Fru Ndi

What is happening in the Sdf these days is not far from a fragmentation. On the one hand, we have the wing of some leaders who are against the participation in the parade of May 20 and on the other hand, we have other leaders who are for.

Indeed, in a statement released yesterday Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the regional presidents of the Sdf for the Center and Littoral namely Emmanuel Ntonga and Jean Michel Nintcheu are opposed to the conditions set by the administrative authorities, including that relating to the participation of parades with only effigies of Paul Biya. Emmanuel Ntonga and his peers of the Sdf for the Centre opted for the logic of boycott because they do not want to submit to the obligation to praise the President of the Republic as the Prefect of the department of Mfoundi requires them to wear only effigies of the Head of State. For the regional president of the Sdf for the Center, the power of Yaoundé reinforces, through this requirement, “the totalitarian and dictatorial state”.

Let’s add that Jean Michel Nintcheu, the regional president of the Sdf for the Littoral has also called on the militants to boycott the May 20 parade. The politician castigates the greedy, bulimic and corrupt behavior of a vice president to whom the Prefect of the Department of Mfoundi has sent, in recent days, a correspondence, the subject of which is “request for participation in the parade of May 20, 2022. In the free column published last night, J.M. Nintcheu said: “The corrupt subcontracting of the Rdpc within the Sdf in the person of one of the national vice-presidents is in the midst of a maneuver to justify the funds received from the civil cabinet in the perspective of participating, at all costs, the party in the parade of May 20. In a one-man initiative, he sent a letter to the Prefect of the Mfoundi department to beg for the right to participate in this parade. The Sdf deputy of Wouri-Est maintains that the betrayal, the cunning and the permanent double game on the background of greed of the said vice-president could not engage the whole party. Moreover, this political figure adds: “In 32 years of existence, the Sdf has never undertaken such a step insofar as it is the responsibility of the administrative authority to send, first, correspondence to political parties for preparatory meetings for a parade. Curiously, Nintcheu tells us that this political leader has pushed his ignominy, bypassing the regional bodies (regional executive committee and departmental coordination) of the party. However, it is these bodies that have the statutory responsibility to organize the participation in the civil parade of this political formation.

One of the national vice-presidents who would undoubtedly be Joshua Osih will take part in this civil parade. The proof through the correspondence of the Prefect of the department of Mfoundi addressed to him on May 16, 2022 in response to his request to participate in the said parade, the administrative authority asks the executives and activists to “carry signs bearing the effigy of Paul Biya during the parade of May 20. It is required to this representative of the Sdf, whose identity is not disclosed, “to line up two squares, 49 marchers per square in compliance with the following instructions: the mandatory wearing of the mask, have a negative covid test of less than 48 hours, the prohibition of slogans, signs or texts not approved by the civil cabinet, the prohibition of using the phone during the parade, no effigy outside that of the President of the Republic, etc.”. Yesterday, during the general rehearsals, individuals brandishing the ribbon of the Sdf in the effigy of the party of the balance paraded. The Prefect of Mfoundi has, without doubt, used the ruse, hiding the name of the agent to whom was sent his correspondence related to the participation in the parade. Addressing the said correspondence to the “vice-president of the Sdf” when there are five within the board is a tactic to confuse the issue. But by order of precedence within the board, everyone can guess who it is in the game of scholastic conjecture. Without question, the radical wing and the moderate wing remain diametrically opposed to the participation or not in the parade of May 20.
