IDP Education Mbouda: The Divisional Officer chairs a meeting on the education of internally displaced students(IDP)
The meeting took place in the conference room of the Divisional Officer of this administrative district of the Bamboutos department in West Cameroon this Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
This meeting took place within the framework of the constant concern of the public authorities to come to the aid of out-of-school children, those in preschool and primary school age, due to the security crisis in the North-West and South-West of Cameroon. The Divisional Officer Jean Baptiste Mbonki had at his side his Deputy, Ateba Jean Petit, the District Inspector for Basic Education Douanla Donat, the District Delegate for Youth and Civic Education, Mrs. Elisabeth Ep. Mayor Wadji of the Municipality of Mbouda was represented by his First Deputy, Pafé Frédéric. The meeting had two stages. Initially with the directors of primary and nursery schools. And then with the parents of internally displaced students.
Cameroon has for some years been confronted with various difficulties; against the backdrop of the security crisis in the North-West and South-West regions. The situation has led to the status of internally displaced persons conferred on those residing far from their homelands. Children in this movement are mostly out of school. Some of them present in the classrooms face schooling problems. The problem of this day was that of knowing how to help these children as a whole. In a special situation, special measures. The urgency is therefore signaled in the face of the compulsory and free nature of public primary school in Cameroon, except for Apee fees.
For the Sub-Prefect Jean Baptiste Mbonki, we cannot give up on this concern. While waiting for the arrival of the minimum package, minutes will be drawn up after the meeting, in order to solicit multifaceted support from the partners, including the hierarchy. Concerns related to the lack of birth certificates were also at the heart of the discussions. The names of the children and their schools were read out to the parents, in order to perfect the final details. There are currently about 385 internally displaced students in schools in the Mbouda district, in urban and administrative centers, in the Bamendjinda, Bamesso, Babeté, Bamessingué, Balatchi, Bamendjo, Bamenkoumbo and Bafounda groups. Some are waiting in households.
The recommendations of the Divisional Officer Jean Baptiste Mbonki to the heads of establishments
The Sub-Prefect of the district of Mbouda recommended to these heads of establishments the diligence in the work of grouping the residences according to the proximity with the schools, the codification and the identification of the pupils in the classrooms. This exercise must integrate in the field the criterion of indigence and real vulnerability. Any indelicacy should be reported to the administration. The Social Nets Focal Point will be on hand to ensure the smooth running of the implementation. The Directors in their capacity as men and women in the field must collaborate frankly. The message will be passed on to other directors to get the job done flawlessly. There are students with a strong mobilization of internally displaced students. For this purpose, managers are required to be observant. Anyone can be internally displaced, but not everyone is destitute. The development of the poorest should not be prevented.
