High Cost of Living: The specter of riots hangs over Cameroon
• With the cost of living becoming more and more expensive, the social climate does not bode well for a better tomorrow in Cameroon
• Everything suggests that the country is a dormant volcano
• A popular uprising can happen at any time
With the moribund economic situation which is reborn in Cameroon, we are certainly not far from this situation, since bad governance, repeated embezzlement, ambient corruption can still push people into the streets. Whose fault is it?
The current situation in Cameroon is like the two signs at the moment, this sign is red with the increase in the prices of basic necessities, fuel shortages, contested political maneuvers, galloping corruption, difficult access to basic services and to crown it all, the carelessness in the face of social unrest.
This current situation is unfortunately similar to that of 2008 when the discontent had reached its climax marked by urban violence which set the country ablaze as a whole called “Hunger riots”, this situation quickly found a parallel with those of 1991 , referred to as “Ghost Towns”. The height is that the government does not seem to see the exponentiality of social anger which continues to take on worrying proportions. Also, it is a question for this government to take the bull by the horns and find corrective measures as soon as possible.
