Fuel shortage in Cameroon: fights recorded in Yaounde

For the past few days, it has been difficult to find fuel at a gas station in Yaoundé. This situation, which leaves Cameroonians in suspense, is already the subject of all analyses, in particular the rise in price. Since yesterday Monday, the situation has worsened. It was noticed that several vehicle vehicles were parked due to the shortage.

In the stations where the precious liquid was found, the attendants demanded from the motorists of their service a maximum of 5000 CFA francs or 10000 CFA francs depending on the stations. We have seen in photos circulating on the web of people and cars crowded into certain gas stations for the quest for fuel. This situation created altercations between these gas station attendants and motorists to the point it was necessary to intervention of law enforcement agencies. This is the case in cities like Yaoundé, Ebolowa etc.

In relation to this subject, let us read the questioning and the concerns of Polycarpe xavier Atangana Eteme, leader of the Cameroonian Civil Society.

< almost all the petrol apples in the city of Yaoundé, Cameroon’s political capital are dry. That it is almost impossible to consume 5000 FCFA. Take it or leave it. It is without negotiations. Some fights between motorists and gas station attendant already recorded. If this problem is not resolved urgently, public and private administrations and other sectors of activity will be weakened this week, including difficult to get to work or travel. I also fear that this situation will lead to an increase in the price of travel in the inter-urban sector and in urban and rural areas. I am very worried about the social shift that this could cause.>>
