Maimouna
Here is a song that we often dance in our festive ceremonies without knowing the message conveyed there. A sad song that we made festive. It was the Maimouna album and the eponymous title that revealed it to the general public in 1989.
Maïmouna is a very sad song. It is a lived story. This song recounts a violent shock that marked Maurice Njoumé. Maïmouna was his very first girlfriend with whom he was madly in love. The latter had accepted her despite her conditions as a resourceful musician. One day, the latter had come to visit her, at the time of returning, she died in a violent traffic accident.
According to Arol Ketch, carried away by pain and sadness, Maurice Njoumé will compose this song in tribute to this first love. He says in particular this: “Of all the women I have met on this earth, it is only Maïmouna that I have loved, but the bad angels have taken her away from me. I will mourn you “Maïmouna”, until the end of my days”.
