ETO’O, A RISING OPPONENT OF THE REGIME IN YAOUNDE

• Samuel Eto’o is taking more and more care of his image

• Since the beginning of 2020, he has set up a very large communication

team • A team thanks to which the player is the most followed Cameroonian personality on social networks

Precisely, this On Friday, January 14, 2021, the number of followers of the former Lions captain’s Facebook page reached 14 million.

To celebrate these 14 million followers, then Paul Biya’s page has only nearly a million, Samuel Eto’o has made a publication that seems to say a little more about his ambitions.

“Thank you for all your support. The journey continues,” Samuel Eto’o wrote on his page this Friday.

This publication raises several concerns for those who attribute presidential ambitions to Samuel Eto’o for the presidential elections of 2025.

Indeed, the publication of the president of Fécafoot carries concerns in itself.

“You are an accomplished player, you have had everything in your football career. Today you are president of FECAFOOT. When you say the journey continues, what are you really aiming for after FECAFOOT? The presidency? Eto’o is he in the footsteps of Georges Weah?”, Writes a user in reaction to the publication of Samuel Eto’o

Indeed, if an average Internet user was able to raise these questions, one wonders how the publication on the account of Samuel Eto’o, watched for several months like milk on fire, was welcomed at the Palace of Etoudi.

Eto’o, a probable opponent of the regime?

Since his show in Sangmélima following his election as head of Fécafoot, several analysts have argued that the star has since been cold with the regime’s pundits who find his aura too embarrassing for the power embodied by Paul Biya.

For the regime, there is only one place at the top for Cameroonians. And this place is Paul Biya who occupies it, or at least is supposed to occupy it. This ‘order’ put in place by the regime, all Cameroonians must have seen during the opening ceremony of the CAN last Sunday.

During this ceremony, Samuel Eto’o, who had become too popular and acclaimed on several occasions in the presence of the Head of State, was kindly hidden (or hid, it depends) in a VIP stand, next to some artists.
