Emmanuel Macron visit: The war between France and Russia is moving to Cameroon

Cameroon had concluded a military agreement with Russia

• France is Cameroon’s historic partner

• France is afraid of Russia’s hegemony

The war between France and Russia is moving to Cameroon. Indeed, Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Cameroon is strongly motivated by the latest rapprochement between Paul Biya and Putin, in particular through the military agreement recently concluded between the two countries. The composition of Macron’s delegation betrayed this idea.

Last April, Cameroon concluded a military agreement with Russia. The defense ministers of the two countries initialed the document in Moscow.

The agreement concerns a 13-page document, initialed on the Cameroon side by the Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, and for the Russian Federation by his counterpart, General Sergueï Choïgou. article 2 of this document, the two countries agree on the exchange of opinions and information in the field of international defense and security policy, development of relations in the field of joint training and training of troops, military education, medicine, topography or even military hydrography.

But what is Emmanuel Macron looking for in Cameroon from a president considered one of the most dictators in the world. Geopolitics has obviously taken over. He who was shot a few weeks ago after his exchange with the activist Ekanga Wilfried, comes to visit his counterpart.

His arrival has a more military than diplomatic accent. “President Emmanuel Macron is due to travel to Cameroon on July 26, 2022. Accompanied by Catherine Colonna, Minister of European and Foreign Affairs, Alexis Kohler, Secretary General of the Elysée Palace, Franck Paris, Africa Advisor to the President of the Republic and Christophe Bigot , Africa director of the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs,” writes the French media Ouest-France. On the menu of exchanges between the two presidents, political issues and security issues are discussed, including the Anglophone crisis and the threat of Boko Haram in northern Cameroon. The issue of food security is also on the menu for discussions.
According to indiscretions, Paris wants to establish other military partnerships with Cameroon so as not to be completely erased by Putin’s Russia
