ECONOMY: HUGE SUMS SEIZED FROM THE ACCOUNTS OF DECEASED OFFICIALS

The Ministry of Finance gets its hands on the money of deceased civil servants

• We are talking about several billion CFA francs

• What are these amounts used

for? The Department of Personnel Expenditure and Pensions of the Cameroonian Ministry of Finance has informed that large sum of money was recovered from the accounts of deceased officials.

The information was relayed by Camer be on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. The source specifies that an amount of 18.6 billion CFA francs has been recovered from the accounts of civil servants who are no longer alive.

The continuation of these transfers is the consequence of the relatively long period between the disappearance of the persons concerned and their notification to the payroll services, thus concludes the study conducted by this department between August 2019 and December 2021.

Between January 2019 and February 2022, the Treasury has thus achieved budgetary savings of around 140.3 billion CFA francs (about 228 million dollars) in this context, 5,181 cases of suspension for false acts having also been pronounced.

The actucameroun site remembers that four (04) years ago, the Ministry of Finance launched a physical counting operation of State personnel called Coppe.

On August 4, 2021, thanks to this operation in its first phase, the “Public Treasury was able to achieve savings of more than 35 billion CFA francs per year. The operation was launched when the state payroll was 945 billion CFA francs per year. It was therefore a question of cleaning up the state payroll file”.

Tax adjustment: CRTV is not blameless

The resounding case between the Cameroonian businessmanJean-Pierre Amougou Belinga and the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) was the subject of discussion on ABK Radio, on the morning of Wednesday May 18, 2022. Pr Pierre Alaka Alaka was invited for the show. He gave his point of view on this situation which is taking a dangerous turn.

Pr Pierre Alaka Alaka made a comparison of the situation ofJean-Pierre Amougou Belinga and that of Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV). For him, it is time to think about changing the tax law in our country.

The caseJean-Pierre Amougou Belinga is unprecedented because even CRTV, which receives billions from audiovisual license fees, has never had such an exorbitant tax adjustment. Any bank balance is not income. In a bank balance, we can find donations, capital or other transactions. This affair of the tax adjustment of the Anecdote Group highlights the conflicts of jurisdiction in the tax administration.

Our tax law is hermetic, it is regrettable. The texts must be written to be understood by a person of the level of intelligence of a duck. This case of the Anecdote credit will allow us to clean up our texts. The Minister of Finance is the guarantor of State revenue. By granting a transaction, He is in his role. Any transaction is not necessarily submitted to the attention of the Director General of Taxes. You can write directly to the minister.
