CHAN 2021 the painful qualification of Cameroon

Cameroon will play the quarter-finals of its CHAN. The local Indomitable Lions qualified this Sunday after their 0-0 draw against Burkina Faso, on the 3rd and last day of the group stage of group A. Martin Ndtoungou Mpile’s men finished second in their group with 5 points, behind Mali who beat Zimbabwe 1-0.

If it is Cameroon which qualified for the quarter-finals of this 6th edition of the African Nations Championship, it is indeed Burkina Faso which created the best opportunities, during this final of the group A, counting for the 3rd and last day of the group stage.

The Stallions of Faso could have won him ahead of the local Indomitable Lions, had they been successful tonight, at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé. Despite the many Burkinabé incursions, the score was 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Cameroon are still unable to build the game after their playmaker Jacques Zoua remained on the sidelines throughout the game. The Burkinabés continued to put pressure on the Cameroonian camp, but will never manage to find the loophole. After 90 minutes of regulation time, the score was still 0-0. A result which allows Cameroon to validate its ticket for the quarter-finals of this CHAN, finishing in 2nd place with 5 points.

In the group’s other meeting at the same time, Mali logically won ahead of Zimbabwe (1-0), thanks to an achievement by Demba Diallo (11 ’). The only goal was enough for the Malian Eagles to win their ticket to the quarter-finals, finishing leader of group A, with 7 points.

In the quarter-finals, Mali will face the 2nd in group B, while Cameroon will face the leader of this same group.
