Buea: the court refuses to release on bail the ladies who tortured their girlfriend

• According to the court, these four ladies do not deserve to be released

• They would have refused to make statements about the acts of torture

• The ladies had attacked their girlfriend who allegedly snatched their sister’s husband

A case is pending before the Court of Buea for several weeks. At least four women are arrested for having tortured another whom they accuse of having snatched the husband of one of them. The court denies bail to the four girls in detention who had tortured another in Buea because of a man.
The court said the four girls could only be released on bail after their statements were taken by authorities.
Note that the girl who attacked her rival with the complicity of others is a nursing mother with a 2 month old baby. One of them is a high school student and the other is a college student.

In Buea, acts of torture are recurrent. Last month, the NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) denounced torture and other abuses perpetrated against civilians by separatist groups active in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, which have been facing an armed conflict for more than a year.
“Once again, documents are circulating that confirm allegations that armed separatists are committing abuses against civilians,” said Lewis Mudge, director for Central Africa at HRW quoted in a statement dated Monday from I’
In the text, HWR claims to have viewed a video, filmed in mid-May, showing “armed separatists torturing a man in an abandoned school in the North West region of Cameroon”.

“The victim was abducted, beaten up and suffered burns in an abandoned school,” the NGO reported.
In the video, the victim, who is in his underwear, is forced by four separatists to “sit on burning pieces of paper (before being beaten) with sticks and machetes”, according to HRW. We also see the separatists threatening the victim to “wash her with gasoline”.
