BEAC: who is Dieudonné Evou Mekou, the powerful nephew of Paul Biya 

The Heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) have chosen the Cameroonian Dieudonné Evou Mekou to preside over the destinies of the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) for the next five years. Current vice-governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the new president replaces the Equatorial Guinean Fortunato Ofa Mbo Nchama at the end of his mandate.

Dieudonné Evou Mekou is not unknown to Cameroonians. Indeed, he is known to be very close to the presidential family. Credible sources say he is none other than Paul Biya’s nephew. Journey

The 61-year-old man is a civil administrator by training, having graduated from the National School of Administration and Magistracy (Enam) in 1987. On leaving there, Dieudonné Evou Mekou took training in banking risk management at the Center of financial, economic and banking studies from the French Development Agency (AFD) in Marseille, France. He began his professional career in the defunct Ministry of Industrial and Commercial Development, which became the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development. From 1991 to 2000, he offered his services to the general secretariat of the Prime Minister’s services, within the division of economic, technical and financial affairs as attaché, then as project manager,

In 2000, Dieudonné Evou Mekou was appointed deputy managing director of Crédit Lyonnais Cameroun. In 2005, he was appointed Managing Director of the Autonomous Amortization Fund (CAA), a position he held until 2016 before joining the Central Bank.BDEAC
