Anglophone Crisis: Political Lethargy in the film industry-Alfred Melow (Producer/Writer)

The entertainment industry especially the film industry has been very indifferent to the violent happenings in the Northwest and Southwest regions. Civilians and soldiers are killing themselves and the culture of violence is becoming our national statement.

Artists to a great extent cannot be physically involved in solving the problems that have led to so much bloodshed but artists are the conscience of the nation because artists have recorded the past and speak for the present and the future, for now we have been very silent on the present, a present where our people are homeless because of arson from all parties, a present where people are kidnapped for ransom, a present where we celebrate the killings of one another with alcohol, a present which makes the exploitation of our human and material resources impossible.

Our nation is standing on three legs The war was started with words and then taken over by the crude discipline of soldiers and separatists. The war can only be ended by the force of words and artists are greatly endowed with words and actions that can heal the land some of us feebly gesticulate as individuals but as a group, we generally turn to where there’s a material windfall and social and political recognition.

This must change we are loosing a culture and people and future of this country is in great jeopardy. We have to start making powerful statements in our artistic production s, artists have more presence and visibility, artists have to go out and talk to the people who matter, let’s salvage something out of the mess. The older generation is phasing out and it will be a catastrophy if the right measures are not taken to bring justice and peace to this mistreated land. How can we be thirsty standing in freshwater rivers?

Why should we be poor and wretched in a land so fertile and abundant, how can we be poor with our feets socked in oil. Why should we fail with so much potential. Talking and listening are no crimes. This is the time to come to the forefront and contribute in building a just society. The people in authority must take advantage of the contribution we can bring. Time is not on anybody’s side. The time is now.
