Akwaya massacre: the death toll has increased, new deaths recorded

According to the government, secessionist fighters killed 32 civilians, including 5 Nigerians, in attacks perpetrated on Saturday June 25 in the home of an elected official in Ballin, in the South West region, informs Actu Cameroun. Separatist bands broke into the home of elected Marin Aka during his brother’s funeral and opened fire on the people there.

In addition to the 32 civilians killed, wounded had been admitted for treatment. The colleague Actu Cameroun informs us this morning that three of the injured succumbed to their injuries, which inflates the balance sheet in terms of people who died during the tragedy to 35.

The Ballin health center and around 50 houses were burned down and the body of the elected official’s brother was cremated. In their flight, 4 terrorists were neutralized and several others injured. Before the reaction of the government, the Cameroonian Presbyterian Church had indicated that it was an inter-community conflict starting from a land dispute.

The Ministry of Defense subsequently communicated on the massacre and according to them, it would be secessionists who are responsible for the tragedy.

According to the statement, heavily armed assailants burst into the home of MP Martin Aka in Ballin on Saturday June 25, opening fire on civilians attending the latter’s brother’s funeral.

Clashes of this kind and terrorism are becoming more recurrent in Cameroon.
