Achidi Achu: A foundation to perpetuate the legacy and values of the former Prime Minister
With his wife, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi as president, this project intends to promote peace, support agricultural projects and allocate scholarships to young people as the former Prime Minister did during his lifetime.
The residence of Simon Achidi Achu, in Yaoundé, was crowded with personalities on Saturday July 09, 2022. Parliamentarians, former Prime Ministers, members of the government, traditional authorities… came to attend the official launch of “The Achidi Achu Foundation”. An initiative whose objective is to promote the ideals defended, during his lifetime, by the deceased, namely: peace, agriculture, the culture of excellence and support for the poor.
The foundation will also honor the memory of Simon Achidi Achu as a high-ranking statesman; a man who worked tirelessly for peace, hammered the president of the foundation, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi.
“We have a duty to ensure that his legacy lives on,” she said to loud applause from the audience. The vice-president of the Senate, Chief Tabe Jando Ndied, is one of the great beneficiaries of the largesse of Simon Achidi Achu.
“I was one of the beneficiaries of his largesse. He helped me and allowed me to have a quality education. He was peace-loving. The objective through this foundation is to immortalize his ideas for peace”. Former Prime Minister Philémon Yang (2009-2019) was also present at this foundation launch ceremony.
He covered the deceased with praise: “He took his time to give me advice at the time. He showed me how to be a good member of government. When you look at his life, you understand that he always worked for success. He had a good attitude. It is because we do not want his life to end that this foundation is born. This foundation will materialize all that he did and what he could not do during his lifetime. We can remember two things: he was a wise person and a good person. Wisdom is eternal, it never dies. Kindness is invincible”.
Simon Achidi Achu has remained famous in the political history of Cameroon with his cult expressions such as: “Politics na njangi” (politics is the tontine); “You scratch my back, I scratch your back” (literally “You scratch my back, I scratch yours”).
The former Prime Minister (1992-1996) died on May 04, 2021 in the United States. He left without seeing peace reign again in the North-West regions and the South-West. Psychosis has made its bed there with deadly clashes as a bonus.
“Why some of our children took up arms to destroy what took a long time to build. Today, we can no longer go to Bamenda, Kumba, Mamfe… without being afraid. Let us carry the message of peace”, underlined Chief Tabe Tando Ndied. The website www.achidiachufoundation.com presents a gallery of memories of the former Minister.
